Thank you. I am thinking about driving down to see Cousin/Little John Islands. Will they be worth the trip? Just to learn more about our new area.
Growing up in Belfast...Yarmouth had always been the full facility rest stop for our trips to/from Grandma's in Webster, MA. Oh, and the Muddy Rudder restaurant.
Would love some info on the area.

The drive around Cousins and Little John's Islands will take you about 15-20 minutes. It's a pretty area though there are few places to stop and take in the view. Cousins has one "main street" Cousin's St, that comes off the bridge and runs centrally down the island. The road runs far enough from the water that you can't see any shore line and what you could see will be blocked by houses..Immediately after the bridge on the left is a parking lot and small public beach. There is also a small plaque honouring the engineer who designed the Cousin's Island bridge, Ellis C Snodgrass. (Just one of those names you remember!). Continuing on you will turn left at the Cousins Island Commuinity House onto Talbot road which goes across the causeway to Little John's. You will see a nice view of the Chebeague Island ferry dock at the end of Cousins Island from the causeway to your right and on the left is a pretty tidal cove. The road around Little Johns is narrow and hilly. There are no places to stop and signs discouraging you to do so. The road makes about a 3/4 mile long loop back to where you started near the causeway then it's back across the causeway to Cousins. Turning left again at the end of Talbot Road you will continue on Cousins' ST and then turn left again at Wharf Road. You cannot go further than this on Cousins' St as there is a security gate for Florida Power and Light's Wyman Power generating station. Take the short drive to the end of Wharf Rd. to see the Chebeague Island ferry dock and Chebeague Island in the distance. (that's a trip you should take sometime out to Chebeague on the ferry with a bicycle.) Back onto Cousins St. almost directly across from Wharf Rd. is Madeline Point Road. Drive to the end of it and you can get out and walk around the rocks by the new dock and look at the shore toward Homewood Inn and Prince's Point on the mainland and a nice view of the bridge to the north. That's about all there is to that trip!

You're welcome. I lived on Cousin's Island for a few years as a kid and grew up in Yarmouth. I'm quite familiar with the area and happy to answer questions if I can.

Had a great time last night checking out Cousins Island and the surrounding area. Stopped for ice cream, came across an antique car show with Vette's, Bel aire's and Chevelle's. DH owned a '68 Corvette 20+ years ago, so he was in vette heaven last night.
The Sandy Point beach was fun. Friendly people with fun lovin' dogs. Hermit crabs by the millions and the sunset was delightful. Our daughter is an artist. She sketched the bridge and scenery.

When M~ says her daughter is an artist, she's being modest. This young teen has talent and capabilities that should bring her far in life. She's amazingly talented. One of the best things she has is her raw talent. She isn't grafting out her scene, she's doing the scale perfectly just from her minds eye which is a natural talent many artists don't even possess.
Really looking forward to seeing what becomes of her in her future years M~. Glad you had a nice time up at Sandy Point. This weekend is the lobstah fest in Belfast. Are you going back to your folks to enjoy it?
Wish I was back up. It's packed with people and hotter than boar's arse at fly time down here!

Glad you enjoyed it. It's a nice local spot. I guess you must have run into the Wednesday night car show at the Frozen Custard place on Route One? They do that every Wednesday during the summer. The guy who owns the Frozen Custard place owns the Classic Convertible place next door.
