Maine Medical Center....which is where my husband is hoping to get a job as an XRay Tech.
Does anyone know how hard it is to get an XRay Tech job in Maine (or know of anyone that is hiring...sorry to impose on your thread Syngar99) I see lots of job postings for RN's and physicians but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot in the way of Radiology. Just wondering....
Good luck with your job search Syngar99!

Thanks MollySmiles! I guess it's good to know that at least somewhere in Maine is hiring for radiology dept. However, we are mainly looking anywhere from Bangor to Southern Maine as that is where my family is.

I have a friend who teaches X-Ray tecs at Eastern Maine Community College. She says there aren't many positions that aren't filled up Bangor-way.
According to this website, there's openings in Blue Hill and Greenville. Does he have CT certification?

EMMC has one for a per diem position.

All these posts delighting in maines natural beauty and such are meaningless if I can't afford to live here.
Maine seems to be dreadfully exclusive- seems like only rich folk can move here nowadays.

What did you do in the Marines? Perhaps your job experience can translate over into the civilian workforce in ways you might not expect. My husband was in the navy, a nuclear reactor operator. He ended up working in various tech positions for several years doing all sorts of things until he decided to apply for a job in civilian nuclear power. He ended up liking that job quite a bit. Very often, you may be qualified for more types of work than you think, if you just try to expand your mind a bit more.

That's how it will be for us as well, when we retire. The biggest investment we have made has been in our home, if it wasn't for that we would be living much much smaller in retirement. My husband's expected pension will allow us to get by comfortably but we certainly won't be called rich, not by a long shot. Things like gardening, and buying things to stock up our pantry when they are on sale stretch our dollars a lot further. If our town allowed chickens or rabbits we would save even more.

You must have some $ or how can you pay bills without a job. What is your masters' degree in? bachelors? After reading some more of the posts, maybe the Maine State Police is a good place to look. MMC is Maine Medical Center.

Saturday I was in Caribou attending an event hosted by the NOAA though attended by a selection of other Federal and state agencies. Listening to them, there is a great deal of hiring / training going on right now by the Border Patrol and Homeland Sec.
Then yesterday at Worship services, a friend was describing antics near his home in Caribou by some of these new trainees.
There is a huge bunch of money being spent on constructing facilities, hiring folks and training them.
If anyone needs a job, ...
But then again I have already posted job openings a few times here, so perhaps I am just babbling.

Fortunately Maine does allow an extremely low cost-of-living.
So it is possible for folks to prosper on low incomes.

We've never known high incomes here. So if you have never had it, you don't miss it. Low cost of living is yours for the taking. Live within your means, its pretty simple.
