I spoke too soon. About 3:30, as the sun was shining, decided to take my dog for a walk. Saw my next-door-neighbor, who owns an aqua farm (trout). Asked her how everything fared, and she, very calmly said that they lost a cage (containing 6500 fish). The wooden walkway around had broken apart, not in the storm, but in the tidal 6-foot surge that followed.
Ted and I spent the next 4 hours helping them secure the site, and then transferring the fish out of the damaged cage to other cages.
The surge was freaky. The cove is extremely protected, and my neightbor, who has lived there for over 50 years had never seen anything as violent as today's surge.
Tonight the skies are clear and there are a million stars out. The air temperature continues to be nice and warm.

One little girl, though, did not make it after being recovered from the water.

My son lives just outside of South Paris and my daughter lives in West Paris. My daughter called me on Friday just before five o'clock and was in tears. She was in the basement with three little ones. She was petrified. A tornado did go through. Two minutes down the street from her is Young's Greenhouses. They lost several buildings. My daughter said it was so dark it was black outside. She said the house was shaking and she could hear branches snapping. She said the lightening was like nothing she had ever experienced. She said everytime it would lightening it was blue. She said everything would light up blue. She said the sound going through was like a train. I have never heard fear in her voice like I heard on Friday. I hope to never hear that again. My son told me that other than some wind and rain he thought they missed the storm. Come to find out just a mile or so away from him, a house was off its foundation and trees were uprooted and wires down and some buildings such as garages etc were destroyed. I am thanking God that my children and grandchildren are all safe.

That was a nasty storm. They said on TV that area had something like 8000 lightning strokes according to the lightning detectors in the area. Too scary for me! Glad everyone was ok though!

Juststoppinby, we're all glad your children are safe too. Mother Nature is a fickle mama. One should always take heed of how quick she can act.

Odd, the Boston news reported on the accidental death and said the child was from New York state. Heartbreaking either way, but I guess with all the confusion, it might not be clear til morning who she was.

The waves were nothing to play around with yesterday. We were very cautious when taking photos at Land's End on Bailey's Island. Many people just taking in the surf were drenched by the occasional large roller sneaking in on them. Some fool in an ocean kayak barely made it out of the surf with his life! He was nearly crushed against the rocks. We also saw a woman trying to body surf at Popham Beach despite the warnings not to. About the third time she was slammed hard onto the beach she figured the surf was a bit too much. There are those with no common sense when it comes to these things. Water is a very powerful thing and must be treated with respect. Too bad the little girl at Acadia got too close to the edge.
