school supplies needed for child in augusta maine
Hi, I am in search of an organization that donates school supplies to needy children entering school. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. this is for a freshman in highschool, and his mother will not buy/do nothing to get him ready for high school.

Contact the PTA at the school he will be attending. They may have a small amount set aside for such cases. If not, they may be able to put you in touch with organizations that might help, but I agree with brokerman- Dollar Tree will have most of what he needs, WalMart has cheap supplies right now (notebooks for a quarter, etc), and Goodwill or Salvation Army may be able to help with clothing vouchers, but I would expect they would need the parent's financial information.

Also check with local Lions Clubs, Amvets, Kiwanas, and Elks. They are happy to help out with things like this. That's what they do! You will have no trouble finding lots of help, all you have to do is ask! Being as it is just one kid the school may have some supplies available for him.

There's an organization I worked with in the past for foster children. It may not apply in this particular case but, I do know that there are tons of kids in state care that it may benefit.
Supply Sacks | About Foster Care | Statistics
Quote:
Our Mission
Supply Sacks provides backpacks or duffelbags filled with clothes, personal care items, toiletries, school supplies, toys, and basic necessities to every one of the thousands of children who come into foster care through the many DSS offices in the state. We are also working with many states around the country to make this a national project that will benefit every foster child coming into care across America.

they also do backpacks with back to school items.
Staples and Office Depot also have programs for needy kids back to school supplies

I agree with Maineah - the service organizations, especially Kiwanis, does this kind of thing or can direct you to others that can.
