The weather forecast for tomorrow morning, August 28, is "frost in the normally colder valleys". Well we made it through July this year with no frost. That is not always the case. The Springfield Fair is held on Labor Day weekend every year. This year it will be the 156th annual fair. About 15 years ago it snowed during the Saturday night concert. The country and western singers freaked out about it.

Summer isn't over. We'll still have some hot days before September 21.

It's actually the 159th year!! I'm doing some baking for "The Sweet Stop" concession (for Congregational Church ladies) this year. Theo J. has made a beuatiful quilt to raffle, I'm looking forward to it.

I'm watching the frost advisories carefully. I have a ton of tomatoes and quite a few summer squash and beans in the garden. I think tonight is the night I'll cover them, just to be on the safe side.

We're covering ours too--Katy did such an amazing job with tomatoes I don't want to lose them. We have a lot, and they're beautiful! Today was wonderful, and these nights make for such nice sleeping weather.

I threw covers over seedlings that need to be transplanted but that's all. I had to make a choice today between spending the day in Bar Harbor and attending a photography workshop in Acadia, or covering 300 tomato, 300 pepper and plants and 500' of cucumbers. Good luck plants!

The earth retains heat from the previous day. That heat is captured and retained by the plastic covering and it prevents frost. It is similar to the reason wells don't freeze.

Are you bragging or complaining? It hasn't rained here for months and it's about a thousand degrees outside without a hint of a breeze. What's the problem?
