Default Is Maine booming - Eastport area?

I logged into my Realtor dot com site the other day to look at the land in KY for our farm. Only 3 years to go and last of the kids are out of the house!! Our area in TN seems to be booming all the sudden. We paid $91k for our house - 5 bedrooms, 2550+ sq ft, on 7.25 acres with amazing mountain views. It needs work, don't get me wrong, but I still think we got a pretty darn good deal. So just peaking to see what the homes around us are going for and was shocked to find if we sold the house now as is we could probably walk away with close to $100k in our pocket.

Well, that just thrills me!! So I logged in to see if KY property was doing the same and it's not. I can still pick up about 100 acres for under $75k where we're looking.

Ok, this never happens to us!! So I thought maybe we could pay cash for a smaller piece of land and use the rest as a down payment on a place in Maine after all!! I'd all but given up hope that we'd ever make it there.

So I log in and ............................................ almost all of the places in or near Eastport that I'd saved were sold. Come on guys, what's up?? Are you guys booming with sales up there too?? Now I'm back to worried that we'll never make it up there.

One real estate agent here in Eastport has over 100 houses for sale - There are three on my block alone and two more in the next block. Eastport isn't booming yet, but there are some good deals to be had here. Most of the houses in Eastport are becoming overpriced yet there are still bargains all over the island.

Well.... with the recent Pirate activity in that area it's difficult to predict what will happen.

Now that was just mean, LOL. I wanted to go so bad!!!!

*sigh* Maybe next year!!

Ok, I'll go back and do another search for homes in the area then. Ya'll try to keep those prices low for me for just a bit longer though, ok?? If I have some time to get the little stuff done to my house and get it sold I'd have enough to buy a place up there and just rent a home here until I can legally kick out the kill joys in the house (that would be the teenagers!! ) Then it's party time for mommy and daddy in Maine!!

100 acres with a 5-bdrm house, barn and garage?

You should be able to find that for $100k.

I just got back from two weeks in Eastport; I found an abundance of
beat housing stock; the area seemed very depressed.

FBK - we're looking for a small cottage or home on the water.............. or at least very near the water. I miss salt air and seagulls very badly. Grew up on an island and now in the mountains in TN. I'd never, ever go back to Florida. They couldn't pay me to go back there. But I love Maine and Eastport seems like exactly what we're looking for.

It'll just have to be seasonal as the torts can't handle the weather there and trying to transport them 1200 to 1300 miles by car at over 100 pounds each just isn't really feasible, LOL!! We'll build a small cabin in KY - northeast part near WV I'm hoping in the mountains - and hopefully find a nice little fixer upper near or preferably on the water in or near Eastport for the summers.

I hate that it's economically depressed for everyone living there, but it does make my dreams of having a vacation home there some day seem a bit more attainable.

According to a couple of realtors I personally know in Eastport, the only thing moving is the lower end homes. The higher priced ones are still for sale. There are lots of homes for sale, but, they aren't that inexpensive. I know some houses that have been for sale for 3 years, but they still haven't lowered their price. Bargains do happen, but prices are fairly stable in Maine. I wish I could say the same for Florida. I don't think you are going to get 100 acres and a 5 bedroom house in most all of Maine. Unless you are happy to be in the boonies and unorganized territories near wetlands.
