Wagyu is a Japanese breed that has recently been bred in the U.S. due to space restraints in Japan (often times actual Kobe beef is American Wagyu, shipped to Japan for processing). Kobe beef is often times Wagyu breed that is processed in Kobe Japan (it can also be other breeds)... Real "Kobe" beef is always from the city of Kobe, otherwise if it says "Kobe" it's only Kobe Style. Kobe beef was actually illegal in the U.S. for a while, but you can get it now (at astonishing prices) at select places. Wagyu beef served here in the U.S. is usually bred to Japanese standards, but a 100% domestic product. It originated in Japan though. Your friend may import Wagyu, but I'm sure there are some even more pricey breeds out there. Certain Spanish meats are spectacular. I remember having some Iberian Ham while in Madrid that was incredibly delicious and expensive (though again, I didn't foot the bill). You also mentioned rabbit... I've never had better rabbit than what I had in Spain.

We have raised rabbit for meat, though we are not doing it now.

We do have neighbors who have been raising rabbit. They have a 'chicken-meat' allergy in their family, so they raise a lot of rabbit. It is also available at the "European-Market" in Bangor, as well as the Orono Farmer's Market.

At each of those three locations it is available as either: 'government-licensed-and-inspected meat' or as rabbit-meat.
