I just got a weather advisory, warning of frost tonight.

This time they are calling for frost in the North and as far South as:

LINCOLN.HOWLAND.SPRINGFIELD.DEBLOIS.GRAND LAKE STREAM.MEDDYBEMPS.PEMBROKE.PERRY.PRINCETON.
DOVER-FOXCROFT.MILO.GUILFORD.DANFORTH.VANCEBORO.

Frost can be a good thing this time of year too! (Not if you're waiting for that watermelon to ripen though!) Frost cleans out all the underbrush in the forest and makes it easier to see deer. It kills off the remaining mosquitoes and blackflies making fall camping much more enjoyable. It FINALLY stops the grass from growing so NO MORE MOWING! It kills off the potato tops without using chemicals to do it. Plus it looks nice on spider webs and pumpkins in the morning.

When the frost is on the pumpkin? I think we'll have a fire tonight.

Thank you! I can't wait for fall and winter.

I'm not sure I want to push the seasons too much! After all the summer was not very good to us. A nice long "Indian Summer" would be great as far as I'm concerned. After November it can get cold and snow 10 feet for all I care, I'm ready for it! It was nice sitting on the patio this evening in a sweater with a beverage watching the sunset. The cooler weather is very welcome.....but not too cool just yet!

The frost on the pumpkin comes from a Thanksgiving poem by James Whitcomb Reilly, filled with lots of old timey images and values.

"...the landscape through the haze
Of a crisp and sunny morning of the airly autumn days
Is a pictur' that no painter has the colorin' to mock—
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock."

The parody mentioned by Coastal Maine....is not an advertisement for Donuts.....

I like donuts though!

No frost here. It's 38* again this morning. I'm going to split a little wood for the weekend. The rain will make it damp and chilly in the house. Morning fires will take care of that.

Hmmm...Frost, huh?

None down our way in RI yet, but we've had mighty chilly mornings! I think the 50's were the lowest so far. Been firin' up the small propane heater in the kitchen, before Mama comes downstairs in her robe and slippers to fix breakfast!

I do LOVE the onset of fall! Autumn is my favorite season of all!
