Default York vs Kennebunk

Hi Everyone, coming up again in mid-September to look around Kennebunk and visit schools, homes, etc. We have two children, 10 and 13. I really like the area and had settled on Kennebunk due to many factors (schools, location to cities, crime, things to do, etc.) but now we have been advised to stop in York on the way up. Currently live in Fairfield, CT which has many things going for it-especially if one has to commute to NYC and must live somewhere in striking distance of the city. I don't need to commute any longer and other than occasional trips out of town, I can work from home. May I ask for some opinions on the two towns? I did not like the main beach area of York when I drove through in the summer-very busy and not my kind of place. Did I answer my own question? Any help appreciated as this is a major undertaking for the whole family and we want to choose the "right" town-for us. Thank you!
