Hello, I'm from upstate ny and I have just read about the possibility of a giant national park to be created in northern maine, I think this is a great idea. Is this most likely going to happen?

Maine has enough national parks.its not a great idea for some land owners when hunting season comes around.if they take 3 million acres and close it off to sportsman then the sportsman that use to hunt there need to find a new place to hunt.that's where the private land owner comes in.
why should i have to spend my time driving people off my land because they lost their place to hunt.then you get the out of towners who dont care about
where they hunt or what they hunt.i drove three people off just yesterday for baiting because they lost their hunting spot.
hiking n biking come on this in Maine and we like to hunt and fish and 4 wheel snowmobile and many other things that a national park will not let us do.
if this thing does go through you will see allot of peed off out of towners.because I'm posting my land.

I for one, sure hope this doesn't happen. What can a National Park provide for us that we don't already have? It would be closed to hunters and put blocks on much of the winter outdoor activity that exists now. They would have the option of "no snowmobiling" etc. The land that Roxanne Quimby bought up is now inaccessable to those that owned camps on leased property. People that have those camps now have to pay $40 to pass onto the land where their camps are. I think the huge planned recreational development around Mooseheadlake is enough for Maine to have to deal with right now.

Bringing up how Roxanne Quimby manages her land into a discussion about a National Park is not relevant. National Parks/Lands and Roxanne Quimby are apples and oranges. The only way she would be relevant to a discussion would be how a National Park would STOP people or groups from cutting off their land to the public. I have never seen large National Park Land that are totally closed to hunting/fishing or anything else. Those arguments and fears just are NOT justified, just fear-mongering.
That being said though, I still have mixed feeling about turning the North Maine Woods into a National Park. It has been "managed" for a long time they way it is; BUT, things are changing and there are more people out there who have money and are looking to spend it to "save the critters" from the evils of rednecks hunting them, and have no clue how hunting and fishing helps wildlife. They have a narrow view of the relationship between Human and Animals and humanize animals to the point where they call hunting - murder. They have that viewpoint and some of them have the money to buy huge tracts of land and close them off for good. Paper Companies and the management of the North Maine Woods are there to make a profit, when the woods no longer can compete with West Coast money on the bottom line, land is sold and then gone from public usage. It has happened in the past and it WILL happen again, and again, and again.
I don't know the answer. Wish I did, but.... If it is going to go National I would rather see it turned into a National Forest and not a National Park. That would actually make more sense than the Park idea, but Gov't on any level isn't known for common sense.
