Default Help!!!Moving to Aroostook County...Need rental info

Hello Eveyone,

I and my son will be relocating to the Aroostook area. I need to find a rental, preferably a house, 3 bedrooms and prefer less than 700 a month. I am relocating due to job offer. We are excited about our move and have been doing a lot of research on the area but can't seem to find much on available rentals. I would really appreciate any help or suggestions. I would like something in the Caribou, Fort Fairfield or Presque Isle areas.

Hi Again
I forgot to mention that we are currently living in SC! So this is a big move for us. I have always wanted to live in Maine and realize there will be things to get used to this winter. I would greatly appreciate any advice. My son is very excited to be getting away from the poor schools and crime in SC. WE are really looking forwrd to the snowy winters, and the peace and quiet of a small town in addition to the safety we do not have here. Thanks again

Good luck on your move to the county. Have you checked any newspapers from Presque Isle?

Hi Austin,

I would check the papers but I can't pull up the classifieds online. Are there any papers that have their classifieds online? Thanks for your reply.

Heyya Verenda. I had the same problem with the classifieds. We are planning a move in a couple years and I wanted to get a heads up on where to look, etc. Might have to end up paying for an online subscription to the paper up there...it might open up some other options for us.

When are you making your move?

Hi Timnwin

I have to be in Presque Isle on he 21st for my orientation! Will need to move up within a week or 2 of the 21st to start my new job and need a place ASAP. Would like to be able to secure a place while I am in the area on the 20th, 21st and 22nd. I dont have much time and have to be back in SC on Wednesday the 23rd cause my daughter has to be back in class and I have an exam to take. Could someone tell me the deposit amounts of electric, and internet and cable tv. I have to have internet service because I and my son take classes online. Thanks everyone

I'm not from or in the Presque Isle area so I can't be of much use to you.

Others have always suggested Craigslist.

Being a recent transplant it took the wife and I a month to find a place. We had the handicap of having cats which seems to be a major problem up here. We tried the paper but here in the Caribou/PI area the local paper only comes out once a week. So it wasn't much help. Called a couple of rental agencies, but as stated, they didn't want to deal with cats. Tried Craigslist and only found one apartment on there that allowed pets.

So if you don't have pets I'm sure you'll find something quicker than we did.

Here's a couple of numbers to a couple of rental agencies . . .

Gagnon Rentals - 207-493-3358

Can't remember their name - 207-493-4580

Thanks FNolan

We have cats too! I have looked at Craigslist they don't have much for the aroostook areas, just a couple of 2 bedrooms right now. A while back there was a house in Fort Fairfield for 400 a month but it is not on Craigslist anymore. Thanks for the numbers. Another forum member is getting the numbers of a couple houses for me and I did find one house for 700 a month in Houlton through a realty company that will let me have our cats. How are the oil prices looking this year? And can someone give me an idea of how much oil they use per month. TRying to figure in all the costs plus rent for the budget. Sorry you had such a hard time, I know our cats are part of our family and we do not want to have to leave them here.

Houlton is a fair bit south of Presque Isle. Don't know if you want to drive that far in the winter if your not used to it. Plus gas up here right now is running $2.77 a gallon here in the PI area. You might want to check in to places closer such as Caribou, Fort Fairfield, or Mapleton. We found a place up in Limestone which is ok because the wifes job is there. I'll be working for a farm during the tater harvest so I'll be all over the area for about a month. After that I don't know what I'll be doing. Not a lot of jobs here. I have several apps out and waiting to hear how an interview went.

Good luck when you get here It's a beautiful friendly place to live in
