We can get some extremely cold weather and deep snow. Animals need to have proper shelter and some heat in these conditions. We have a large wood shed, approx. 18x28 that I'd like to convert for chickens and goats but, I won't do it until I can afford to insulate it. It is set up for a wood stove and has both water and electric set up.
(I tend to make pets of all animals,....... I'm a softie)

with micro planting, you grow indoors, and you can try tomatoes, berries and peppers and not have to worry about the frost.
good luck.

Cranberries are planted by the vine. You can buy the vines by the bale. You need to prepare the area as a bog. It can take up to seven years before the vines produce well. In Maine I'd most likely plant early blacks though stevens seem to be the most popular in Maine.
Picking the fruit can be low tech and labor intensive but, for larger areas you need to have the right equipment.

thanks for the link, only plants source it reference to is cranberry creation, they seem to be for decorative purpose only. I will look around to see who have vines by the bale, that should be more economical to plant an area 100' x 100'.

If you don't find them I can give you the office number of a friend who is a cranberry grower. She might have bales for sale.

You can try Jasper Wyman Co. in Cherryfield. They may be able to help you out, I've also seen bales of vines on craigslist for sale.
