I can't blame you. I was stationed in SC right after I got out of school and was miserable. There is no place like home. Glad to here you are able to get back.

We are so excited. The Penske truck has been reserved. We will be leaving South Carolina on December 31st.....hopefully to arrive in Maine on New Year's Day. We were able to find an apartment ahead of time that is being remodeled. It will be ready sometime in December. The excitement is over whelming that we will finally be home.
Where are you moving in Maine, and why? I'm nearly retired and looking to move this coming year. The town must have a low COL including low property taxes and easy way for older folks to get around town without traveling on highways to get milk. What made you decide which town?

Thanks for all the warm replies. We are moving to Corinna for convenience sake with my husbands job. The days can't seem to pass fast enough, but keeping busy weeding through things before packing up.
You are right.......once a Maineah always a Maineah. I got the tattoo in SC to prove it. (I would post it, but can't seem to figure out how!)
Really nervous about the drive up in the snow. Hoping for now snow storms!

Where were you in SC and where did you go to in Maine? There are so few people here from Maine, though today did see a car from Maine. I walked right up to it of course, but no one was in it. Guess I am desperate for human contact of the Yankee kind....HaHa

Grunzen

We were in Greenwood. I was born and raised in SC but could not wait to leave! We are now in Fort Fairfield, and its wonderful to be here finally. My son is so happy to be starting at a small school where he will get a good education unlike where he was. Sure feels great to not have to worry about walking outside at night or having my car or home broken into. Had my SUV broken into about 2 months ago. In Greenwood of course, the crime rate is very high in SC. All the best of luck on your move

Thanks. I know what you mean about crime. I learned quickly not to look anyone in the eye here. My son is so excited about returning to school in Maine. Here he has not entered school for the current school year. Schools are unsafe here and it's not the kids that can be the dangerous part. Good luck living in the County. You will soon see ALOT of snow!

I was born in Dover Foxcroft but lived the first 8 years of my life in Corinna. My dad was the principal of the grade school there. Moved to southern ME, Eliot, for the next 8 years before leaving ME. Now back in Dover for one year now. You will like the convenience of the location being close to Newport and Dexter.

Side story. I was in Corinna at the town center restaurant one morning last fall for a coffee. There were two customers sitting there having breakfast. I decided to engage them and see if they were native Corinian's. Seems that one of them has been living in our old family house there for the past 35 years. Holy cow! He brought up his whole family in that house. I eventually stopped by his house and brought him some pictures of me and my sisters playing in the front yard in the early 50's. Just so he could show his family for ha ha's.

Anyways, Corinna is a super little town and was a Superfund cleanup site just a few years ago. I used to play around the old factory there and the waters edge growing up. That's why I'm like I am today. I'm a Superfund kid who's lived to the ripe old age of 58. Can't complain yet.

Good luck on your move.

RMoore007, thanks for the story. Might have to check out that restaurant once we get settled. Since you are from that area.....do you know if it is serviced by Time Warner. I will need internet hooked immediately due to working on my MBA online. I am hearing some say TDS, but also Time Warner. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.
