Default Speaking of books - who's read the One Eyed Poacher stories?

I was too late to mention McClosky on the children's book thread, but, I thought I'd mention my favorite Maine adult books - that is the adventures of the One Eyed Poacher (the first book is called the One Eyed Poacher of Privilege) by Edmund Ware Smith. They are old fashioned (written in the 30's) and not PC, but incredibly funny. Originally publlished in limited quantities by Derrydale Press, they have been reprinted in the past 10 years or so and generally can be found for between $10 and $20 - even though the reprint is also a "limited edition" , the limitation was 2,500 - which is a pretty good run for short stories. They can also be found through interlibrary loan.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!

Oh, absolutely. I thought about those stories the other day as I was travelling through Mopang Township. I especially enjoyed the story about the time the lantern flame froze in the cold winter.... It may not be in that book, I don't remember which volume it was in.

That was the year my neighbor had to shovel the smoke off the chimney so the wood stove would draw. Yup. I saw him do it.
