We jumped two humongomus bucks at 4pm yesterday. To our surprise, we found a couple of nice herds near the top of a 2000' mountain just 15 miles from town. I'll be hunting there a lot! Awful cold up there, but you can drive right to the top on good road and its relatively quiet with the snow in the woods.

We used to hunt Little Spencer Mountain. There were some big deer up there. We always did well up there but as you said it's cold on those mountains this time of year. The military used to practice using their ground tracking radar up there. One time we saw jets coming in BELOW us only to see them pull up over the tops of the mountain then back down low on the other side all taking place in about 5 seconds! Pretty impressive.

I'm going to the stand this afternoon. The wind and the bright sun are a little concerning. Cross your fingers - I really want to tag out today!

Me too! I was hoping the wind would die down some but it seems to be picking up. Oh well at least it isn't 20 degrees out or raining. There are a couple of spots I haven't checked out yet that have always been good....we'll see.

I saw a small doe just before sunset. I got cold enough because of the wind to close all the windows in the stand after two hours. After sitting still for two hours I got chilly. Then cold. When I'd had enough of being cold I scanned the field, swiveled around and leaned down to turn on the heater, sat back up and there she was. I hoped a buck would come looking for her but no such luck.
When Steve walked down to get me after dark a buck blew and stomped at him. That's aggravating!

Checked out an area I haven't been to in a couple of years this afternoon. Its on the railroad tracks, with a station house turned into a camp and two other camps nearby, bordering a nice stream in a wicked steep valley. The deer have been at the old apple trees steady.
There is some huge acreage cut over about nine years ago with four to five year old, planted red pines with awesome views of Barren and Boarstone. The herd might number a couple of dozen, or more. That should be this weeks hunt with a couple of trips to the mountain.
There are more deer out there than I figured this year. Go figure. Got plenty of rope for the winch in case we decide to shoot one down near the stream.
