What's the "over 30" singles scene like along the Maine coast? What's Portland, Rockland, or York Village area like. Don't really know anything about. I can't stand Las Vegas.

What do you mean by, "cities"? Maine is a very rural state. Cities aren't really something it does. Portland, the largest city, has a population of about 63,000 (about 200,000 in the immediate area of Portland) and is widely regarded for its quaint, small town seacoast charm. The rest of the towns you listed are much, much smaller even than Portland. What are you looking for? If it's a bustling urban area, you probably won't find it in Maine. If it's a quaint seaside village, you have your pick of dozens of places as Maine has plenty that you'd likely fall in love with quickly (the seaside towns on the coast are absolutely beautiful).

The singles scene in Portland for the over 30 crowd is just O.K (to put it nicely). Portland is a wonderful little city but it's very family centric. When living there, the singles I knew over age 30 (very few, by the way... most were married or close to it) mostly stuck with online dating as it was hard to find many eligible singles. Many people leave Maine to find jobs and experience other parts of the country and come back with their family when they're ready to settle down as the safety, schools and overall good quality of family life are what they find so attractive about it.

The bar scene is rather limited (really consists of a small handful of pubs and dives in downtown Portland) and mostly dominated by the 20 somethings crowd. It's not the environment where one would likely meet someone for more than a one night thing. You'd probably have to have a chance encounter at work (finding a job is a completely different issue) or just get really really lucky. Otherwise you'll probably be on match.com or another dating service.

I guess I'd have to know a bit more about what you're looking for in a place. None of Maine resembles Las Vegas in any way (thankfully) so that's probably a plus for you. However, jobs are hard to come by even in good times. The singles scene is limited. Maine (even Portland) isn't on the top of the list of places I'd recommend that a single person move to if they want to date. If you're married and have a family, that's another story... but I have a hard time trying to think of a reason Maine is a good place to be single and looking to date. If you like Maine enough, date around, find the right person for you, and then move to Maine.

Depends on your gender. Most of the young men with specialized education leave Maine to find employment. More young women stay. There are a whole lot of single woman nurses, teachers, bank employees and call center employees.
