I love it... A budget of 1.2 millon for Brooklin, and the state currently "gives" us $140,000. They'll "give" us 20,000 less next time. We have about 100 kiddos to educate.

It is my understanding that on average our gubbermint wastes around $9,500 per child for the public-funded education system.

So for your 100 kiddos we should be wasting around $950,000 each year.

Governor's order pares spending by $63 million | Portland Press Herald (http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/story.php?id=297520&ac=PHnws - broken link)

Portland - 2.6 million - 3% budget
South portland - 1.2 million - 3.2% budget
Scarborough - 1.1 million - 3.6% budget
Falmouth - 700,000 - 2.9%

Seems like southern maine got hit harder the northern maine. Fair? Think not. People down here are hurting just as much as northern maine, yet our schools will suffer more.

Something really needs to be done about the school funding formula.
Does anyone know how many children are in each of those school districts; and how those district budgets compare to the national average?

Well, our local contribution is over 1 million. I'd say that you are real close.
