Someone mentioned Christmas Decorating in the white meat or dark meat thread. It IS the season after all! We used to go all out and put miniature lights around the whole house, garage and barn. It looked real nice and we got a lot of compliments about it. A family member told me it looked tacky one year and that was it. I haven't done it since. We now just put candles in the windows and maybe some small lights in our little apple trees. I also decorate a small pine tree about 150 yards from the house in the middle of the field.(lots of extension cords!) It's nice to see that little tree so far away from the house all lit up. Do you go all out or do you do the minimum?

I used to gather spruce, hemlock and juniper and make my own wreaths and garlands for the deck and doorway, lights in all the windows and shiny trinkets and such peppered all around the place. Unfortunately we have had so many tragedies and bad turns of late thru the holidays I'm lucky if I even have the motivation to make a table centerpiece. Mosty the DH and I take a drive around the neighborhood and search for "wicked good" lighting displays.

In my opinion, less is more.

I'll string a simple set of lights up on the dock though, I've got way more boat traffic than I do street traffic down here.

I don't know how much decorating I'll do - don't really have the Christmas spirit yet - hope it happens soon.

If it makes you happy and your neighbors happy, go for it. And be damned to your family - perhaps they need a good enema.

My husband is a candle in the window fiend as well and anything else is tacky. However, one of these days when I have the bucks, the monster 300 year old fir tree next to the house and store will get decorated...and lit up so bad the airport will complain in Boston.

Decorate your house to suit you; don't worry what anyone else thinks.

Does anyone remember back in the 60's when a house in Lamoine (not too far from Lamoine Beach) had lots of lights on the house and other Christmas lights and decorations in the yard? My parents took me to see the lights and I enjoyed them very much. (They also had a pond and in the summer people would come and feed the ducks.) I like candles in the windows, a wreath with lights hanging outside on the door, one or more decorated trees inside the house and a lighted fir tree in the yard.

Someone sent a pic of Santa peeing off the roof to me this afternoon. He's outlined in lights. I think you should do this Maineah. Don't like your decorating style? Tell it to Santa.
