Houlton is only 15 minutes away.
The wildlife refuge is a great place to meet local people. they have a lot of volunteers. Art is great.
You're also very close to nice places in New Brunswick.
People will be very friendly, don't worry.

If you don't mind tons of flies and ooze seeping from your walls you'll just love it there. Just ignore the evil voice saying Get Out !

OHH! Amity, Maine, NOT Amityville, NY, sorry Again, you'll love it there if you hate crowds and the rat-race in other parts of the country

So, I guess a snowmobile has to go on our need list along with Kevin's ice fishing equipment... I thought that the post office is in a store on route 1? Do they have mail delivery?

They call them Snow Machines now! Snowmobiles is an outdated and seldom used term....I found that out the hard way.

See how out of THAT loop I am? ( I still call them snowmobiles) Sleds slide down a hill and require no engine. It's like I equate "Bike" with bicycle and call motorcycles motorcycles. I do say dirtbike and roadbike though to seperate those two classes. Sled??? Toboggan!!

Thanks again for all the replies. Makes me much more confident we have made the right decision. Guess my 2 motorcycles will be sold for money towards a snowmobile. The wildlife Refuge also sounds great. I'm no stranger to volunteer work as I donate my time here to the MO Dept of Conservation as a safety officer at the local shooting range. Have met some nice people there. I'm excited about going up this weekend to look the place over.

A snowmobile is what I use to pull a sled with my ice fishing gear onto the ice. It then makes a nice place to sit while I'm ice fishing.
