Re: Air quality.
Things are tough all over. I'm currently in Washington State. Most of our acid rain comes to us from China, and there just isn't much we can do about that.
It's why a GLOBAL policy on emission controls is needed. We're a global society now, and what one does 10,000 miles away can affect us here.

Respectfully, I disagree.
We do not need a one-world-government.
What we have in the USA is not perfect, but I do not wish to see 'World Courts' telling us any further how we should live our lives.

Who said anything about a one-world-government? All moral arguments aside, that just wouldn't work for all sorts of practical reasons.
When I said that we need a global policy, I meant that governments need to get together to establish equitable solutions for everyone's benefit, and those agreements ought to be legally binding, much like trade agreements, treaties, alliances, etc. None of that necessitates a One World government.
Getting our own emissions under control is all well and good, but we are still hurt when all of China's pollution falls on our forests and into our water as acid rain.

Only the Bean Boots and the totes are made in here. I worked warehouse there and I saw boxes from Asia, South America and Africa. I'd say about 98% of there stuff is made outside the US.

interesting thread, perhaps, like ingredient labels on the food we eat, maybe it would be a good idea to have a "purchase statement" at the entrance of most stores, of where there product comes from, (what percentage is purchased out of country)there was a big push, on fresh meats/seafood, on "country of origin" over the past two years, maybe that also could be applied,,,,where general merchandise come from.
maybe it wouldnt make a big difference anyways, americans seem to like "cheap" as in wal-mart,(i think the new uncle "sam" is sam walton) but if i went to a local hardware store and there was a sign at the front, stating, 95% of all items in the store (if not 100%) is american manufactured, perhaps, id feel better supporting fellow americans, (if the prices were a bit higher) than supporting slave/child labor)
