Just keep your own words in mind when you get here.

The Portland area is nice, but it's really not a major player economically. Sure, it's the biggest city in Maine, but it's less than 1/2 the size of Dayton, Ohio and BARELY 1/4 the size of Akron Ohio. It's super tiny; comparably sized cities in Ohio would be Springfield or Hamilton. The good news is, crime is very low here and it's less expensive than most of the Northeast, but Portland is probably not a much better bet for jobs than anywhere in Ohio.
If you're willing to live off of less money to benefit from lower crime, friendly neighbors, and beautiful scenery, then a move to Portland may not be a bad idea. If you're looking to move here for an equal or better job, then I would seriously recommend doing heavy research at one of the job search sites and calling places to try and lock something up in advance. It's not the land of economic opportunity up here, and I would suggest having something locked up before you come out hoping for a better life.

Thank god, I finally found someone that agrees with me.

^hey, many people agree with you!
Also, speaking of good vodka (and Maine products) has anyone else tried Cold River Vodka? It's from Freeport and it's potato vodka, not grain like grey goose or others. It's fantastic but not cheap (more expensive than grey goose- $34 for 750ml). Hannaford has it, so go support Maine business! Buy 3 or 4 if you must... Whatever helps local business right?

Yes Cold River Vodka is made here in Freeport. It may be good though I'm no judge as I don't drink Vodka!

Are you sure? 750ml is just over three cups, or a pint and a half. That is ridiculously expensive!

I haven't tried it yet. I've heard good things though. Is it sold at local establishments or just at the liquor places?

I just looked in my freezer, 750 ml looks like a fifth. I pay $28 for the goose.

It's true it's $33.00 for it at Shaw's in Freeport and it's only 750ml.

Grey Goose is around $30 everywhere. A little bit more in Maine, though. I actually prefer Belvedere and Chopin (gotta keep it Polish ). Grey Goose is top shelf stuff, not the best, but you would expect it to be a little bit more.
I dunno, I have yet to try Cold River so maybe it is worth the price. I am still amazed that alcohol costs so much in this state, even for the stuff that is made right here. Anyways, $33 a bottle is still a heck of a lot cheaper than an equivalent amount from a bar.
Yes, 750ml is a fifth. And a fifth is 1/5 a gallon (everything used to be quarts -1/4 a gallon- until WWII and rationing came along).
