According to the U.S. Census Bureau (referenced in THIS article), Maine's population is lower than it's only U.S. neighbor for the first time since 1800. The difference is just over 6,000 people.

The interesting thing is the difference in Birth/Death rates. I'm a population statistics nut, so I always enjoy this stuff, hopefully someone else will too.
