Can you describe Maine summers? (Portland, Eastport: how much, living in, moving)

I looked for a thread, but couldn't find one specific to what the summers are like in Maine.

Can you describe them?

As with most things in Maine.. it depends on where you are in Maine (both in weather and activities!).

Well, if its like last summer...you turn the heat on!

Last summer seemed horrible, the bad weather seemed to over shadow the good weather and left more of an impression.

There really isn't a typical Maine summer I don't think...it just varies so much.

I can speak for northern Maine................
Summer here is PERFECT. Absoutely perfect. Early June to early September are in the 70s and occasionally 80s. Not dry, not humid. Not too much rain but enough.
(I also lived in Portland area and summers there are nice too............although southern Maine actually can get pretty HOT for someone like me................that is to say, 90s or even 100 now and then).

I think if you go to weikepedia you can find out about maine average temps.. even city specific..

As far as what I experience living in central Maine (auburn) It depends on how much snow we got in the winter.... even though we might get temps in the 50's and 60's in april may there is nothing I can do when there is still 2 feet of snow melting and there is nothing but sand and mud everywhere..

June tends to be pretty nice but then sometime between the end of june all the way into august we usually get tons of rain... I think the biggest part of living in the northest is not seeing the sun.. I remember a few years ago it rained 7 weekends in a row... these past few years we have gotten drenched.. I think we are tied into that el nino la nina thing... and It just changed.. so maybe that was the probelm the past few years..



otherwise our july august summers are hot and humid... its just 50/50 on weather or not its raining or sunny..

Thank you for all your very helpful replies. Sounds like I need to be looking into the Northern part of the state (do you really have to go that far to get away from the humidity?). Actually, I don't mind rain, fog, and gray skies in the summertime. And in the wintertime, I actually PREFER gray skies - "sunny" winter days get on my neves. I must have a dark side, I guess!

The humidity in Maine is very low compared to North Carolina - when the people in Eastport complained about how humid it was on any given day - I found it to be nothing like West Virginia humidity. The kind that makes you wet before you can get in your car.

Summer?

Sunny and warm.

We have a short skeeter season and sometimes there will be waves of black fly moving through the state.

But otherwise, warm and nice.

I'm betting the black flies' bite can't be any worse than the bites I got this summer from the god-awful fire ants we have down here. They are downright horrifying, in my opinion.
