Lincoln vs Lubec (Bangor, Bar Harbor, Machias: coupons, credit, how much)

I have job possibilities in both areas. Moving from Georgia. Pros and cons of both areas please.

Lincoln is near civilization, Lubec is near the boondocks. Lincoln has a Walmart, Lubec has the boondocks. Lincoln has a McDonalds, Lubec has the boondocks. And on and on and on.

Oh, Lincoln has a paper mill, Lubec has the ocean.

Lincoln has six banks and a credit union. They have a little WalMart. They have a good hospital and are 4 miles rom the interstate. They have 13 lakes and the Penobscot River. They have a Mardens. Route is Main Street in Lincoln and on to Seattle. There are jobs in Lincoln. There are moose, bear and turkeys in Lincoln.

Well said everyone; Have you ever visited either place? Are you moving back to Maine or will this be your first time living in Maine? You might get more snow in Lincoln if that matters....The choice depends on how much you like remote living, distance you want to be from Bangor International Airport, distance you want to be from the ocean, distance you want to be from shopping in Bangor, whether or not you are ok with buying online (ask maine4.us who lives in Eastport about local shopping). Lincoln has more going for it, imho. Lubec is waaaaaay out of the way and seems to be dying.

Well, I wouldn't say Lubec is dying. It has an up and coming artsy side, antiques (supposedly), old hippies (bald on top, ponytail in the back),retired yuppies and fishing. Just like Eastport. The rest is true. Go to Lincoln.

RTB, they closed the high school, and from what I have seen it still has a declining population and economy-- unless all those old hippies are richer than they seem, that is (although I know that most of the waterfront is now owned by rich people from away).

Yes, it's getting an influx of retirees over the years, like here. Aspiring "Gramma Moses' from away. Bar Harbor and south are filling up and harder for these folks to find a niche of their own. They closed the high school a year or so ago because there are fewer kids there and bus the one's they do have to Machias.

If you are a shopper, Lincoln is more to your liking. I prefer the coast....less snow, less cold, and less people.

Thanks Mainegirl!....there is online shopping, and we do have a good number of UPS,FEDEX, and deliveries by USPS....making the trek to the boonies every day..

At 8 AM this morning it was snowing hard in Lincoln. The grass was covered, evergreens drooped and the dirt roads got slick. I bet it didn't snow in Lubec.
