Governors in my opinion is just like diner food. Sort of a home cooked appearance, very large portions and decently priced. Agreed, nothing special but fine if you're on the road and really hungry.
I also agree with Seaglass's opinion of Red Lobster - why would anyone currently in the state of Maine consider eating there? It's not local seafood. You're in the seafood capital of the US, eat REAL seafood!

We do not eat out very much. We have eaten at Governors a couple times though. A nice selection of 'home style' foods, mostly deep fried though. I try to avoid fried foods, so it limits how much of their menu I can really choose from.
We did eat at the new 'Mexican' restaurant in Bangor on Hogan road a week ago.
I was very surprised at some of their fare. I had never eaten salsa with no cilantro and no peppers before. I asked about it, as many good 'Mexican' restaurants will have a selection of three different styles of salsa, but that is the only salsa that they serve. Diced tomatoes and onions and that is about it. No Guacamole either. On a 5-star scale, I would give it a star. My Dw is from Ct and she really enjoyed it

Sounds like the one I went to in March. I actually liked the taste of the salsa. It was different and I enjoyed it. I give it 2 stars. I had a fajita and I wasn't impressed with it to a point to say yum, but I ate it because there wasn't anything wrong with it.

Red Lobster - I guess that I am in the minority here. I like Red Lobster.
A selection of platters each with six different kinds of seafood is nice. Instead of a plate of flounder, you can mix and match stuff.
I like conch steaks and calamari.

the former red lobster in augusta (now olive garden) was a very nice place, good atmosphere, decor, etc....
but
as you walked thru the door, there was a lobster tank,,with live maine lobsters....however, most of the lobster on the menu consisted of frozen lobster tails (from warm water spiny lobsters) and it was a bit pricey

I don't frequent chain restaurants too often anymore. I'm thinking the lobster tank you saw filled with " Maine" lobsters were just to lure you into thinking that you might actually get to eat one.
All of the seafood on their menu is previously frozen and from somewhere else. I asked the mgr when the first Red Lobster opened in S. Portland many years ago. He confessed, it wasn't fresh or local.
Imho, the warm water spiney lobsters are pretty sad. Florida lobster, ewwwww. Nasty stuff.
