Could it be possible that nobody has mentioned Dysart's???
I believe in Hermon, right off 95. I'm sure it's still there, because I stopped on my way out of Maine last Christmas. So much yummy food, huge portions, & made fresh. Can't go home without a visit to Dy-sahts!
Pat's Pizza in Orono has been a fave since childhood. It has to be the original in Orono... just something magical about that place.
Gillmor's in Lincoln is one of the town's best places to grab a bite. Diner-type menu with lots of variety, & actually pretty good quality. I eat there a lot with family during the holidays, & it's consistently yummy.
My parents adore River Drivers Restaurant near Millinocket, for special occasions. It's a rare place in that part of Maine, with appeal for even more advanced foodies. River Drivers Restaurant - Gourmet dining in Millinocket, Katahdin Maine

The Maine Diner in Wells is great. Lobster rolls and clam chowder are my favorite. They also have great blueberry pancakes. You can get breakfeast at any time. There is quite a line during tourists season but this time of year its not to bad.

Oh, Dave's diner is one of my favorite places to go. my dh and i had our first meal there as a married couple. we got married at the common in gardiner and then went to dave's and had lunch before we went on our honeymoon. We also like the seabasket in wiscasset. good food and good prices. the kid's menu at the seabasket is great. my oldest can always find something to eat there. (very picky, does not eat meat) My little one's fave is....Mcdonald's. specially the ones in waterville and bangor with the really big play areas.

We don't go out that much, but Johnnys on the water in Old Town is a nice small diner.

Dysart's, exit 180 (Cold Brook Rd.). I ate there for the first time a week or so ago. Beef stew was good, not quite as good as mine, but with a huge and very tasty biscuit. Good price, big bowl...and the deal closer was a second bowl at no cost if you don't think one was enough. I just barely managed to finish the second one...trying the pie just wasn't possible after that. And, unlike some stews, this one was LOADED with meat.

Dysart's is great. I grew up not to far from there and have been going there since I was 7. We used to meet a couple of my uncles that were truck drivers there for supper once in a while when they were going through. My friends and I used to snowmobile there on the local trails and gas up, get something to eat and play video games. When I was in college it was a very popular spot for an early breakfeast after a night out on the town. Many memories and good food!

My town in Maine was Washburn, which has exactly 1 place to eat, so I guess by default that would make it the best place in town to eat. I really wouldn't feed my dog there though . Around that area though I can name a few really good places to eat. Caribou: Par and Grill gets the nod for good food. Presque Isle: would be a toss up between the Irish Setter Pub and the Riverside. Riverside for a quick good meal even though it looks like a dump and the other for a nicer place. Houlton: The Taste of China on Military St, headed toward Canada (coming from somebody who doesn't like Chinese food usually this is a surprise even for me). St. Agatha: The Lakeview. Can be a bit noisy, but always good food. Sinclare: Long Lake Sporting Club, good food but a bit spendy.
My favorites for downstate would be; Skowhegan: Old Mill Pub. Just over the bridge going into town and right on the river.
