Anybody mention Clayton's on Route #1 in Yarmouth yet? I didn't find it by searching the thread.
Anyway we went there last weekend for the first time and thought it was a great place. There's a sandwich order line on one side, a deli with baked goods, wine, and all kinds of the other stuff on the other side, and both indoor and outdoor seating. We got a deeeelicous veggie wrap, a Greek wrap, and apple scones for dessert.
They have a website if anyone's going to be in the area and wants to check out the menu.
Oh, be forewarned, they're closed on Sundays and it's a popular spot, but I understand you can also call ahead. I imagine there might be a lot of folks heading out on the water that stop here and grab a lunch to go first.

We need a 'Red Lobster', a good Italian restaurant, and a good Mexican restaurant.[/quote]
There use to be a Red Lobster right by Bugaboo Creek in South Portland a few years ago. They didn't last, I'm not sure why but I remember going there once to eat and driving by it all the time. When I went I found that the food wasn't quite like our local places such as Captain Newicks (Now gone) that was in South Portland or The Clambake or Ken's in Scarborough.
That is possibly why it didn't survive here.

I don't know if it has been listed, but I just got back from Thatchers in Windham. Very good.
I had fried seafood platter. It was huge. All the staples - fish, clams, shrimp, scallops - and two fried lobster claws. Very good. Coleslaw as excellant on top of fries. Good eats, not healthy, but good. Price was good too.
Wife had a mushroom/green pepper burger with cheese melted on top. Nicely cooked and very tasty.
Apply pie for dessert. mmm.

I had completely forgotten about Capt Newick's. Wow. Time flies.
It's hard to beat Clambake or Lobster Shack though!
Now that you mention it, I think it's time to go see how Clambake's doing this year Not only good food but a nice bar as well

LOL, that's *definitely* why. Most of the people in my family love seafood, they had seen the advertisements but couldn't find one handy. When they finally went to one, they were severely disapointed.
I was only mildly disappointed- I don't eat seafood so I went hoping they would have some steak on the menu. They did, but I really didn't expect a place that was billed as specializing in seafood to do a good steak. I was right, and it was only slightly worse than what I expected.

We will be in Maine in about 10 days. Are there any good Chinese or Japanese restaurants in the Portland area?

No Red Lobster needed - TRUST ME!! Red Lobster is THE seafood restaurant of choice here - about the only one available worth a damn. But, when we were in Maine, I realized that I was eating real seafood for the first time in my life! You guys even have fish there that isn't readily available here, several I've never even heard of! And I ate fresh, non canned tuna for the first time in my life in Belfast at Dockside. It was the best tuna I've ever tasted! We also had Lobster twice - once at The Weathervane and then Lobster Rolls (YUMMM!) at Rollie's Bar & Grill. Wow!
Red Lobster is a poor comparison for seafood, and yet they sport the Maine Coast on their ad. Makes me wonder what happens to those Fresh Maine Lobsters before they reach my plate in Texas!!

I agree, Claytons does have good food and delicious baked goods as well as a great selection of wines.
