Ooh, I so agree on fresh tuna. I once had a fresh "tuna steak" caught the same day....absolutely no resemblance to the canned or frozen stuff. Tender, flaky, delicious. I thought it's possible to buy fresh fish at the wharf in Portland but would have to bring a cooler full of ice with me.
Never had lobster at Weathervane but used to like their food, especially the clam chowder; unfortunately, last time we were there, before Christmas, I got a nasty half-cooked piece of fish and a watery milkshake full of cracked ice. Ack.

Last night my whole family and I went to Pat's on Stevens Ave here in Portland. It's a tiny quiet really nice place, up over the meat mrkt. I had my first fried haddock in 6 months, it was to die for. It wasn't the traditional fried as in greasy battered stuff, maybe more like panko crumbed. Yummy!
Today.... I have fried Maine shrimp on my eating itinerary!
Eating my way through Maine is going to require a lot of exercise when I have go back to the Sunshine state.

T loves Miguel's. It's near Olive Garden and Applebee's. The amount of food is ridiculous though. Next time we go we'll split a meal and we'll still take some home.
We're kidless next Friday night, something that seldom happens because the kids end up here instead of our kid going elsewhere. We're celebrating with dinner out at Nook & Cranny while the crew is filming the documentary!

What memories the Fat Boys conjures up. I went there when it was first built in the middle 1950's. I was from Bath, and my mom and I used to go to Brunswick now and then in her 1951 Ford to go to church at St. John's.
We always stopped at the Fat Boy for lunch...$.45 BLT's with Canadian bacon on steamed burger rolls...double mayonaisse, please, $.25 cent burgers, $.35 cheeseburgers...great fries and shakes all delivered on those little trays that used to hang on the window.
By the time I graduated from Morse High in 1961, I had probably visited that place a thousand times. We would park way to the far right, pop a couple beers, order the great food, and try to pick up Brunswick girls.
The Fat Boy was the center of all the social life on weekends back during the 1950's and early 1960's. Everything started with the burgers and BLT's and commenced from there.
Thanks for the memory.

Ahhh, but before Smokey Bones, it was Paul's, and it was gooood. Back in the day, you had Pilot's and the Red Lion, all gone...
Smokey's was the only chain restaurant I ever enjoyed. Olive Garden is Italian wanna-be. Red Lobster and Weathervane is a blight on the landscape.
I enjoy Bailey's and Twin Lights around Scarborough. Ken's gets their clams from Baileys.

Paul gave me my first real job. I bussed tables and worked on the register between grades eight and 10 for something like $2.41 an hour.
