Best Restaurant in your Maine town?
How about sharing? What is the best (not neccesarily the most expensive or the fanciest!) restaurant/clam shack/drive-in in your town?
I live in Deer Isle, but I'll claim Stonington, too. The Fisherman's Friend is open now in their new (as of last season) location on the harbor in Stonington- the food is good, as is the view. Stonington has finally approved alcohol service, so a BYOB is no longer neccesary. For breakfast, though, it's only the diner (Harbor Cafe) if you want breakfast with the locals (5:00 if you want to dine with the fishermen).
And I have to plug this, too-
We just tried The Mexican Restaurant (I think that really is it's name!) in Hancock. Oh. My. Goodness. It's very good, inexpensive and about as authentic as you can get in Hancock County! It was great!

Smokey Bones BBQ [I would rank them 3 of five stars] they do not stock any hot sauces, you can ask for a hot BBQ sauce and the waitress will bring out their 'special' sauce and go through a mandatory warning about being careful as their sauce is too hot for most Mainers, but it is bland and has no flavour.
Governors [2 of five stars] they do provide a very wide selection of breaded deep-fried foods, if your cholesterol is low you will enjoy this place;
Bugaboo Creek [2 of five stars];
Olive Garden [1 of five stars] any Italian would burn this place down for hawking so much American food as 'Italian';
The Chinese Buffet by the mall [1 of five stars] I had never seen a Chinese restaurant with such a tiny buffet line and limited selection;
There are a lot of small greasy spoon places that do okay.
We need a 'Red Lobster', a good Italian restaurant, and a good Mexican restaurant.

Forrest, there was a Red Lobster in Bangor, but it couldn't survive. None of the Red Lobster's survived in Maine.

In Western Maine I'd have to say Gordie Howe's in Hanover. The best buffalo burgers and beef burgers-Yum!

Weathervane and Dockside in Belfast were excellent. I've never had FRESH tuna like we had there! I didn't know it tasted like that!! Incredible.
