Secluded Areas?
I have been looking to try and 'get away from it all'(traffic, crowds)and have been looking at states I know are the least populated such as Montana. Is there anywhere in Maine that is similar by any chance? I'm based on east coast and Montana is quite far,but to avoid congestion I'll go almost anywhere!

Aroostook and Washington counties in Maine offer what you desire. Aroostook from Houlton up to Van Buren offers some of the most beautiful rolling farmland you will ever see. Washington county is on the coast and has many lakes inland. Densely forested with blueberry barrens. Neither have a large population - Aroostook is the size of Conn and RI and has 77k IIRC while Washington has 20k+/- as I remember. Great people in both areas but limited number of jobs.

Easport is all the way up the coast. It's a town of about 1600 with no stoplights or franchises. If you enjoypeace and quiet, I highly recommend it. we went up once and are going again in September. Eventually, we will retire there.

I was able to find forest land that has riverfrontage for $900/acre. But I am not that far North.

$900 an acre! What a great deal. Do you know if that's typical or is it just that you found a steal?

I have met and spoken with neighbors who purchase for about the same pricing. Now my land was expensive as we have a quarter mile of river frontage. The land across the road sold to my sister-in-law for $350/acre. Both are thick forest.
The couple that I bought land from had a four page listing of all their land holdings. These two purchases are typical of their properties.
Now that we are 'settled in' into the area, it does seem fairly typical of land values. So long as you stay away from realtors. When a realtor lists property you can expect the asking price to be double or higher.
I just saw one property about two miles South, that sold for $2,000/acre, they are clearing a spot and building a house on it. That land is across the road and without riverfrontage. It is still forest though, but just no river. It was listed by a realtor.
I know that right now, where those folks bought one lot for $2,000/acre, immediately behind them is a tract that is also for sale and he is asking $345/acre. But the seller is not a realtor, he is a forester. He bought from a logging company, he logged it years ago, and he is managing that woodlot until somebody offers to buy it from him. If the trees get big enough, he may log it again.

Repeat after me, "Maps are our Friends."
If you want the town name it would be Kittery with South Eliot running a close second. Anyplace in York County is as close as you are going to get.
Question though, why dig up a year old thread about secluded places, to ask an unrelated question?

I live in Limerick which is southern maine and 45 min west of portland/2 hrs to Boston. I can be on the beach in Saco in 35-40 minutes. In the other direction it is 1 hour to the White Mountains of NH.It is close to Waterboro and Parsonsfield. It is a typical New England small town. Only 2500 residents and no stop lights. We have a bank, hardware store, convenience store, small supermarket, and many home businesses. It is a very friendly town and very pretty.
