Default Some of the mid to northern beaches (suggestions)

Ok so... Every year in NJ, I had a tradition to bring the kids down the shore before the season started which was Memorial Day weekend. The kids would run around on the beach, find shells, climb on the jetti's, we'd get pizza for lunch & I'd have my camera with me & get tons of awesome pictures of the kids and landscape. I WILL be carrying on that tradition this year from Maine so now it's time to choose where to go....

I am right between Howland and Lincoln exits off 95...

I have already drivin to Calais, Bar Harbor areas (which does not mean they are out) which are both about 1 1/2 hours. A trip about that distance to about 2 hours at most is what I'm looking for for THIS trip. I would LOVE a place we could do our normal stuff, but would love plenty of picture taking opportunities too IF possible. This will just be one of the many exploring trips we take so give me all the suggestions you have please and let me know what type of place (like if there will be a little pizza place or somewhere to grab a bite close by, plenty of picture possibilities, if stuff will be open etc)

Thanks for ANY help you can give me!

Two places in Lubec area come to mind. It's not a sand beach, but if the tide is out, you can get down onto the beach at West Quoddy Head. Rather than sand, it's smooth river rock that has been eroded over time. Really neat to see if you've never seen it before. Kids spend hours looking for just the right shape and color rock. Second place is East Quoddy Head on Campobello. Again, time it to be there at low tide. You can walk out to the island that East Quoddy is on during low tide. Plenty of signs warn to watch the tide, because where you walk over is filled with 10 ft of water or better during high tide. You can get caught over there and have to stay until the next low tide. I also believe a guy drowned there last summer in a freak accident. The water had risen to a level that made the rocks unstable (even though the were still exposed) and they collapsed or something.
As for scenery, it's postcard perfect.

You've answered your own question. Bar Harbor is possibly the closest to you. There is a beach area in Stockton Springs, but I can't remember the name of it.

How about Pemaquid? But it's almost 3 hours from you. Nice beach though and a lighthouse.

Try Roque Bluffs State Park. Lovely long sandy beach. Beautiful place that a lot of people don't know about. It's about twelve miles east of Machias.

If you go back to MDI, I would not go to Sand Beach. My two favorites(well three) are Lake Wood beach(which is very difficult to find), Hunter's Beach, and Echo lake beach.
