Forestville, Waldorf, or Crofton
I currently live in a nice subdivision of older homes in Clinton, Md. I love the proximity to Cosca Park, shopping, and dining. We're a hop skip and a jump from DC and can easily commute to more shopping and dining in Waldorf. My husband is ready to build our dream home but, in Forestville. This would shorten our commutes but, I am worried about the neighborhood school quality and crime. Waldorf and Crofton are other prospects. Which area do you think is best if ranking were based on Education, Safety, and Commute to DC?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I am sure my buddy Iscalder will comment soon but please, if you have kids do not move to Forestville! take it from someone who is a product of Forestville living as a teen, don't do it! High school was a zoo, cars were stolen all the time, high crime very undesirable area... Private school if you have to but trust me don't do it

Just curious, where in Forestville are "dream homes" being built?

I have to agree with RTG, moving to Forestville is not the best move you could make. I had friends that moved outta there just so their kids to get into a better school district. Not to mention the loitering, crime, and overall "feel" of the place, I would not suggest moving there.
Please understand I spent a lot of time in and out of Forestville when I was younger, and it was cool then...I mean you got used to a lot of things. But now that I am older, I do not think I would want to raise a family there. And since you are building a home, Maybe Waldorf or anothe rpart of Clinton would be a good choice. But the closer you get the DC the "worse" things get. I hate saying that considering where I grew up and wher eI spent a lot of my time...but it is what it is.

Crofton is a very nice area....the high school I believe is Arundel High...?? Next to Crofton is Gambrills (extrememly nice) and Odenton (popular community is Piney Orchard).

As for commute, there is a Marc station very close to ride...my dad commuted this way for a number of years....and you don't have to worry about parking in DC

I love Crofton, its' expensive but I love the atmosphere. I moved away from the Forestville/Suitland. District Heights area because I was tired of the school system. I was also tired of the undesirable people/children (not everyone!) but I don;t want my kids growing up around the same thing and environment that I did.

Crofton!!!
move to crofton.... waldorf is getting over crowded and is getting p.g's spill over from folks that can not afford to live in p.g anymore. pg. has a plan all right... some folks see it some don't.

Diva-Mommy, I grew up in Clinton and my parents still live there, behind the Surratt House. When I got married my wife and I moved to Crofton. I agree with Rmx Christina that Crofton is very nice but also very expensive. My wife works in Waugh Chapel which is just up the road from Crofton. We now live about 10 miles North of Crofton in Millersville. We like our choice. The price of gas is less expensive and our auto insurance rates dropped by moving further North. I also have a friend that is a retired PG County Police Officer who now lives in Millersville as well. Crofton is not that far from RT. 50 and the beltway. It is also close to the Metro's orange line in New Carolton. Waldorf is getting very over crowded. I think they are trying to put one of every restaurant there. I can remember before St. Charles town center was there. Based on your three choices I would recommend moving to Crofton but I would also encourage you to look a little farther North, like Gambrills or Millersville.

My vote's for Crofton--I liked enough to live here I like the whole area of Millersville, Odenton, and Gambrills. The districting is kinda weird in that you're in Crofton one minute and Gambrills the next so not much delineation b/w Crofton and Gambrills.
High schools are Arundel and South River, although there's supposed to be redistricting and all Crofton will go to Arundel. It's a long story, but most agree this is a good thing (nothing against South River). Crofton is also getting a new elementary school in Fall '08.
Marylandborn--I agree Crofton is really expensive, we happened to move here b/f housing went crazy. And why is gas so expensive in Crofton? We drive to Millersville all the time to gas up.
