new job in Greenbelt. Moving with family. Please help
Just got a new job in the Greenbelt area. I am moving with my family (3children under the age of 10) from Fort Collins, CO ( Voted best place to live in the USA from Money magazine). We are looking for a safe, quiet place for families and would like to commute no more than 40' to work. Schools are not an issue, two of my kids attend a catholic school now and I have found many in MD. We would like to rent until the job is permanent (3 to 4 BDR townhome with a yard). I have looked at Laurel, Ellicot city, Rockville or even German Town if less expensive. I will be paying school tuition so don't want to pay more than $2,000 for rent. Any ideas? I'll appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Okay your gig is in Greenbelt so you should check out Summit Russet area in Laurel, Annapolis, Bowie, Crofton, and I always encourage Columbia or Ellicot City...All will flow right off 32 and BWI parkway.....easy commute

If you can find a house that allows you to use a route other than 495, that will help. 495 during rush hour (and most other times of day) is hell -- congested AND aggressive. Also, I believe there is a Greenbelt stop on the metro, with bus service in and out of the station, so if you can find another town convenient to the metro, that will make your commute less nasty.

Why not just stay in Greenbelt? There are quite a few nice communities there plus it is within minutes of 95, 295 and 495.

I would stay in "old Greenbelt", they also have St. Hugh's catholic school right there. It's a nice community with lots of things to do and lots of nice people. I lived there for 6 years and just recently moved out of state... miss my friends in Greenbelt, the movie theater right in the center, the fun classes at the community center, the little music festivals....

If you're looking for not to bad of a commute and suburbia, I would suggest Bowie. Nice location, private school, and futher down the line close to good private highschools.

Not only is there a metro (subway) stop in Greenbelt, but the MARC commuter train goes through there, too, so that gives you an additional commuting option.

This is reassuring, as I'm in the same predicament. When you say 'easy commute', what do you mean exactly? Trying to get a sense of commute time during rush hour. Mainly from Ellicot City or Columbia. Thanks!
