North Beach is free if you live in the town. It's only a fee for out of towners I thought.
We moved to Chesapeake Beach about five years ago. We've greatly enjoyed the rise in our property values but we kind of wish the town would 'catch-up' a bit in services and stores. There are a few places but they cater to NASCAR crowds or tourists. There were hopes it would become a 'new Annapolis' but the retail just hasn't arrived in any real way. You basically need to drive to P.Fredrick or Dunkirk for some bigger stores, or Annapolis or DC for a night out. Still, it is quite peaceful. The area does feel the effect of passing storms a bit more than those inland (if you are on the water, you'll know when a N'easter comes through or a TS as compared to folks in DC who just think it is raining). |

If you don't like the stores then move to where you feel you're catered to. This was and still is a primarily rural area. The services have not decreased since you moved here and I assume you knew the "lacks" when you came. It should have been a factor in your decision.

I've lived in Chesapeake Beach for a few years, and I think its a great area. It is more rural than many other locations in Maryland. That is part of the charm of the place, and I'm glad that it hasn't been over developed. It's a simple thing to drive to Prince Frederick, Annapolis, DC, Waldorf, Bowie for both shopping or commuting to work. Nothing like driving home after a long day and seeing the beautiful bay waiting for you at the end of Rt. 260 to welcome you home and wash away the stresses of the job. Hi,
I've recently moved to Chesapeake beach and I currently work in Chevy Chase. Any suggestions as far as public transportation/car pool/van pool commuting? |

Calvert County has an internal bus system running from the Beaches to Solomon's. The only option for you is the MTA buses which run from various points to Downtown. There may be Van Pool options, there used to be, but I haven't seen any on the road for several years. Car pooling, ask around at your work. There is no Metro or similar system in this relatively rural area as you probably noticed when you moved here.
