Question University of Maryland graduate student "hopefully" is being transplanted from Texas

My daughter (22) has been accepted into the UM graduate school at College Park.Currently she lives in Abilene Texas and has no clue as to finding a suitable place to live. The off campus web sites have been explored and contacts made via e-mail.Most have not replied. Any suggestions? The plan is to pack her out of here on Thursday with her grandparents and her apartment contents to make the 2 1/2 day trip to Maryland. The whole idea is half-baked but we are working with her to "git 'er done". Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Small town Texas is having trouble navigating these waters. Thanks. Charlotte

Try to avoid PG county she should try Montgomery County. Or if she must stayin PG county try and live on Campus, not around campus but on Campus.

No car? Live either on campus on off of the red line in Montgomery County, MD. Best bets are downtown Silver Spring or Rockville, though the Metro ride will be a LOT quicker from Silver Spring. Stay away from most places on the green line, which put you closer to campus but in unsafe areas. Farther out on the MetroBus routes, there are some nice areas in Laurel and Columbia but I wouldn't recommend living out there without a car...

Good luck!

Oh my! I just heard a report on the radio this morning that UMD-CP is having a housing crunch this year, so much so they are leasing a high rise in Hyattsville to ouse students. I'm guessing the area around there is pretty full. I'm going to send you a private message with a link or two, just so the mods don't delete it. Good luck!
