I'm a single guy and don't make all that much money. I would however like to purchase a home. Is there anywhere in the Baltimore area that is affordable? I would like to stay within 20 mins commute to the Hanover, MD area. I only make 35k a year so I need something in the affordable but safe area.

Ideas? Areas? Forget about it?

Hello there,

I moved to Maryland from Massachusetts 4 years ago and can tell you that there are some very good areas around where I bought my townhouse. I owned a house in Essex for a while, and the Mace Avenue area was nice, quiet and decent. I then bought a newer townhouse in Edgewood, about 17 miles north of Baltimore. There are a lot of townhomes which are affordable in this area. If you prefer, you can get a decent detached home with some land in the surrounding areas. In fact, I was just looking on homesdatabase.com for someone I know and saw some really decent properties in the Abingdon/BelAir/Darlington/Fallston areas. I would recommend checking out that website. Anyway, hope that helps you, good luck.
