In Need of Advice
I am a 26 year old female who recently was accepted to a Johns Hopkins Residency. The school does not provide housing - so I have to find it on my own. I live in Long Island NY and am unfamiliar with Maryland / Baltimore / Surrounding areas. Can you please give me some advice on which areas are SAFE, relatively close to Johns Hopkins, and fun? I greatly appreciate your help!
Thank you

Congratulations, that's a tough program!!
Hopkins is a tricky area.. the campus is nice but 2 blocks in the wrong direction and you might need to start praying for your life. I'd suggest anywhere on N Charles Street, closer to Towson University's campus.

My wife and I just moved to the Patterson Park area about 2 months ago. It is awesome! Plus it's only a 5 min drive to Hopkins, shorter if you live on the north end of the Park like us. I went to school at Towson and my wife's sister moved to Baltimore a few years ago. So we're more familiar with the area then our two months would let on. Now since it is the city you have to take precautions but we walk to the park, local bars and eateries without any problem. We do make it a point not to walk around after about 10pm. If we are out we just hop a cab for cheap. (it's 6 bucks to the Inner Harbor!) We're from the D.C. area and so far love Baltimore. The people are way more down to earth and there are great places to eat! Housing prices are pretty good and there are more and more people moving in. Crime is a problem but the more people who move in and join the neighborhood groups will change that.
Baltimore is changing and I believe it will turn around to again be the great city it once was.

canton, fells point, charles village, patterson park ,little italy are the ones coming to my mind.If you can be more specific, I can send you some listings.Remember charles village and patterson park areas are going to change just like others said. One block is full of renovated houses and another with abondoned buildings. You need to do your homework for charles village and especially patterson park.congrugulations on your acceptance. I am sure it will not take you too long to appreciate what baltimore city has to offer for students.
