Default Tell me about Fredrick, please??!! Need a place by Dec 1st

Is this a good area for someone working in Rockville? How is the train service? Can anyone suggest a specific place for a townhouse or apt rental for an active and fun-loving couple in their 50's? Any suggestions for a rental agent? Thanks so much for your comments!

Sorry my reply may not be very helpful. But your post caught my eye because for 34 years I did the opposite of what you are proposing. I lived in Rockville and commuted to Frederick for my job. But I did it by car (along Interstate 270) and since I was "reverse commuting" it wasn't too bad.

I may be wrong about this (and those more in the know can correct me) but I believe there is no direct train service between Rockville and Frederick. The commuter MARC rail line runs from Rockville to West Virginia, and the nearest stop to Frederick is (or was) Brunswick MD which isn't all that nearby. Perhaps there are commuter vans or something that run between Brunswick and Frederick, but I have no direct knowledge of that. Or maybe since I moved away from the area, more direct rail service has been established.

The Frederick area is surrounded by townhouse projects, some pretty dreary and some pretty nice. And along Route 15 there are some nice apartment developments. Frederick is a beautiful small city, and the historic district is like a different era. There are strict zoning and architectural standards governing it. It contains some great restaurants and bars.

The city has essentially become a bedroom community for nearby Montgomery County which has lots of jobs but astronomical housing prices. But you seem to already know that which is why you are looking to possibly live in Frederick.

Again, sorry I can't be more help, but I wish you well. Frederick is a very nice place, but for certain personal reasons it wasn't practical for me to live there even though I (very happily) worked there.

There is MARC train service from Frederick. There are stops in downtown Frederick and at the station behind Target. I believe there is also a shuttle bus that goes from Frederick to Point of Rocks.

For rentals, try something in the Historic District, or for more suburban areas, Worman's Mill, Spring Ridge, Whittier, Dearbought, or some parts of Ballenger Creek are nice areas.
