What's the best way to go from Wheaton to Owings Mills/Ellicot City.

Taking 29N takes forever!!! Are there any short cuts?

How about from 66W in Northern Virginia or the Dulles Airport? DO you have to go all teh way back to 495 and then go back west up 29N?

Thanks!

You could use 95N too, but all that depends on whether you are going to travel during rush hour or not.

Wheaton and Owings Mills are over 40 miles apart and travel through the suburbs of not one but two major cities. How quick do you expect it to be?

I don't think 95 north will make things any better. If this is done during commuting hours you can drive to Greenbelt, take the MARC to Penn Station and then walk over to the State Center Metro station and ride to Owings Mills. It would probably take just as long if not longer.

29 IS the shortcut.

Check out Mapquest. That is a long drive.

What about using I-95 - it's a couple of miles longer, but has no traffic lights.

A new Potomac River bridge crossing is desperately needed between Leesburg, VA (the fastest-growing county in the entire USA) and Poolesville, MD. But such a bridge will never get built as long as upper Montgomery CO, MD is preserved by law as protected "green space" -- and also because MD wants to keep its residents flying out of BWI and generating revenue for BWI, and discourage them from having quicker access to Dulles.

I live in Owings Mills at the moment and go down to the DC area occasionally, and I agree with this statement. Besides the fact that taking 29 from there is actually shorter than taking 95, it's usually quicker anyway, even with the traffic lights. But if you're getting to Owings Mills at rush hour, you can take some of the back roads to avoid I-70 and 695.

From the Dulles area, I will often take 15 North to 70 East in order to avoid 495 and 29/95. It's definitely longer, but I kinda enjoy the ride on 15 from Leesburg to Frederick (other than the one time I did it in pouring rain which wasn't very fun at all).
