hubby and i are interested in a house we found in the 20716 section of bowie. i always thought bowie was a fairly decent area but thanks to my google searches, i'm seeing a lot of info about crime in that particular zip code of bowie.
i know crime can happen anywhere. i'm just wondering if i should be particularly alarmed.
i welcome all opinions about that particular area.
thanks in advance!

This zip code looks like the E, A, P and N sections in Bowie and probably Mitchellville East. I have heard good things about Mitchellville East. I also have heard good things about the Pointer Ridge area. I've read about an increase of crimes in the E section, which is next to the Bowie Town Center. The new City Hall is going up over there, so that progress and increased police presence may change things. Some of the crime may spill over into the N section, which is also near Bowie Town Center. I haven't heard anything bad about the N section. The areas look nice and well-kept from what I have seen.

Allen Pond Park, the dog park, soccer fields and other amenities also are near those areas. So there is a lot to do, and the areas get more traffic. Perhaps that accounts for some of the crime, which is not astronomical.

thanks for your response bowian. yes the area we found is the p area - i'm assuming because all of the street names start with p. i've traveled over there several times during the day and night and it looks like a quiet, well-kept area with owners who take pride in their neighborhood.

I've driven through Pointer Ridge a lot. Always looked quiet and well-kept to me. I used to work out at the South Bowie community center and it was fine. Good luck.

I wouldn't worry too much about crime in the Mitchelleville/Bowie area. If were were talking about Capitol Heights or Landover then maybe an indepth conversation is in order. But Outside of the beltway in P.G. is generally fine.

Just remember that even in gated communities if someone wants something bad enough, they will find a way to take it. I wouldn't worry about it and enjoy.

thank you jayman. interestingly enough, i'm moving from the new carrollton area which is a little rough around the edges but i've never had any problems there. it's just any time you're making such a huge investment like a house, you want to make sure you've done your proper research. i'm happy that there's no particular need for alarm but i surely understand that bad things can and do happen anywhere. thanks again.
