Nice areas of Silver Spring?
Does anyone know which parts of Silver Spring they will consider to be the best (i.e. safe, good schools, good shopping, etc.)? I am currently looking to buy a place in between Baltimore and DC, and Silver Spring seems like a decent candidate. Ideally, I would buy in Bethesda or Chevy Chase, but based on my budget of about $350-$400k, I don't think I can really afford anything decent there. I've heard people both ragging and raving about Silver Spring, so I figured since Silver Spring is such a huge area spanning two counties, the area you pick must matter a lot. My dream location will be a place (townhouse or a big condo) where it has good schools and still walkable to the downtown area, but I'm sure everyone with money has probably moved there already and thus leaving me out

Nice side of Silver Spring
Try the 20910 area. I live in a different area (close to Hillandale) but like that part of SS. It borders CC and its close to the downtown area, and there are a lot of revitalizion projects going on there.

I grew up in Woodmoor (20901- Four Corners) and loved it. My Mom still lives there and I am there all of the time. It is a very nice, friendly neighborhood. Houses are mostly 400k+ though.

I suggest the Kemp Mill area in 20902. I can walk to a shopping center, and the area has decent schools, both public and private. There are condos and townhouses along University Boulevard which may fit your price range. The SFH's are $450K and up.

Like Koofie -- I also lived in Woodmoor. It really is a nice, pretty neighborhood. I lived there for about 12 years.

Try the area around Oakland Terrace Elementary. It's not too far from Northwood High School. My Sister and her family lives there. It's well maintained, quiet, and very safe. Also try the areas by Sligo Creek Park. I used to hang out in that area in High School and I always liked it.

I checked Realtor.com for single family houses under $400K . There are several cute places with two bedrooms, if that's enough for you. One house I used to live in is now for sale in much improved condition. It's within walking distance to the Safeway at Four Corners, and near the bus lines. It has a larger lot and is very cute. The MLS # is MC6386848 .
Good hunting!

Depends, do you like being shot at?
Come on... they even steal the ambulances there.
