reisterstown & parkville --suggestion
Ok. After moving into Baltimore, MD I am pretty culture shock how the crime is going around here....We are recently decided to buy our first home. We are looking for an area that relatively safe to walk on the street with out 2 years old son.
I am looking at Reisterstown area and part of Parkville.
Any suggestion what streets in Parkville i should steer away from?
We are looking for Single family home or townhouses. I know Reisterstown is good area it's all depends if we can find a place within our budget...$200k and under
Thanks in advance

You won't be able to get much for $200k and under in Reisterstown. I've lived there for 10 years now, it's not bad. I will say that it's no where near what it used to be 10 years ago, it's certainly less safe, but it's not too bad.

Parkville Streets
I live in Parkville and had the same dilemna you have it seems. I was looking at Reistertown area and Parkville. Parkville is quieter and closer to Towson which I like. The traffic going to and coming from Reisterstown is not so great and you have to be careful where you live. Although some places are nice. I put my money on Parkville because eventually I see it going up in price due to its location close to Towson and accessibility by backroads or expressway to Baltimore. I would say in Parkville you should be above Putty Hill Road and between Loch Raven Boulevard and Bel Air Road. Ideally anywhere there or up Harford Road and north of Joppa Road in Carney also. You can still find houses in the 200's that have a decent amount of property and you can fix up unlike alot of other places. The crime is low above Putty Hill if you go below Taylor Ave then it is ok but not as nice or as much like Towson. Well that is my two cents. If you have any more specific questions you can write.

You will find it tough to find a townhome for under 200K in the Reisterstown/Owings Mills area. I feel bad for the people today and what they have to pay on the other side of the real estate bubble. We bought a townhome in 2001 in Owings Mills-New Town (before the high school was built, which was New Town's downfall). Anyway, we paid $154,900 for a 5-year old town home. 5.5 years latetr we sold it for $302,000 and moved to northeast Ohio (took a nice relo package). Here (as the market is WAY different) we bought a 8-year old 2800 square foot colonial on 0.65 acres. Easily $750,000 home in Baltimore County with the land we have, the spacing between lots, and the house itself - paid $325,000 here. HA HA. Cost of living is way we left. It was getting ridiculous. We looked single family in parts of Resiterstown, Towson, Edlersburg, and even Westminster and couldn't find anything we liked for under 450K.
