I am planning to hike the entire C&O Canal Trail some time next year and was wondering if anyone had any experience or advice they could share?

Cool idea! Are you going to hike the Great Allegeny Passage as well? The C&O ends in Cumberland but the GAP continues all the way to Pittsburgh. One day when I get the time I want to ride my bike from DC to Pittsburgh.

It's a flat walk. There's a lot of free camping on the C&O as it's an nat'l historic park. These are mostly primative sites. Many have porta-potties. There are some B&Bs and hostels in some of the towns along the way.

My favorite towns along the trail are Brunswick MD, Harpers Ferry WV and Cumberland. I've rode it in pieces.

If you are able hike up to Jefferson Rock along the AT, which branches off the C&O. Gorgeous view of the valley and Harpers Ferry.

My wife and I recently moved from DC to Brunswick, so I am lucky enough to enjoy the trail on a pretty regular basis. I'm looking into the Allegheny Passage for a later trip. I'm hoping to complete the 185 mile trip in just under 2 weeks. Hopefully, I can get everything planned and ready to go by early next fall.
