Default Towson University sucks - extremely angry

What is with Towson? God I hate them.

Okay so my friend who is an international student got her bill for $8,000 for one semester (3 grad school classes) + $800 in medical insurance. She wants to change her classes before the semester starts and they are going to charge her to change classes. $50

what bull. and now all these other random charges are showing up on her account.

Towson is so disorganized it is making me sick and I am very frustrated.

Anyone else have any insight to Towson? Does it suck?

Opionions please. Need help.

Default Towson

I went there for a year of undergrad (transferred to the U of MD) and then for my graduate degree, and I was very happy. It wasn't perfect, but it was a very good experience. I have since taught at five different schools on two coasts as an adjunct, so I feel as though I can post an informed response here.

The health insurance is elective - she doesn't HAVE to have it, as far as I know (unless the standards are different for international students). I don't think the school can force you to have it - although $800 is a freaking amazing steal. That sounds totally worth it - insurance is important!!!

As for the classes, that sounds like a late registration fee, which she can surely fight... and that is standard EVERYWHERE, not just at Towson. I had to do that several times as a student. If she already registered before the end of the regular drop/add period, there should not be a fee. If she is late, then that is why she is being charged a fee. She should go to the Bursar's office to discuss a fee waiver in person.
