Default Commute distance between Ft. Meade and Severna Park?

My job is relocating to Ft. Meade, and I will be moving my family to Anne Arundel or Howard County. I don't want a commute of more than 30 mins (45 mins at worst). I really like Severna Park, but have gotten conflicting advice about commute times. Some people have told me an hour and others have said 30 mins. Can anyone who does the commute during rush hour tell me how long it takes to get to and from Ft. Meade from Severna Park? What about Edgewater?

just google mapped it for you. I live in Severna Park and not sure about you, but it doesn't take me an hour to go 13.1 miles-even during the "rush" here which is kinda bad on the major highways, but still, not an hour... Severna Park has great schools if you have children. could also check out Columbia, md which is comparable distance-wise. howard co. has more country...if you like that (which I do). this is plaza land here. Severna Park is full of plazas and to me it's quite boring and cookie-cutter here. Annapolis is nice if you're rich. Not sure about Edgewater. further commute I think if thats what you're worried about. whoever told you an hour is crazy.

Could be an hour on 97 sometimes.

Maybe going from Edgewater to Baltimore it could be, but to Fort Meade you wouldn't be on it for very long. I'm not 100% sure where all the gates are, but you're probably looking at about 45 minutes maximum from either of those places to Ft. Meade, but probably closer to a half hour.

It shouldn't take you an hour unless there's an accident or something unusual. Also, if I-97 is ever backed up, there's a couple ways you can skip it all together by back-roading it over to Gambrills Rd, then use Route 175.

Depending upon where you live in Severna Park, there's several ways to get to Ft. Meade, during rush hour, in around 20 to 45 minutes.

My coworker drives it every day - about 20-25 minutes on a regular day, never more than 30. Guess it depends on how deep you are in the development to get out.

....The biggest problem is when the gates are backed up which will affect you whereever you live.

I echo what everyone else is saying. It should take around 30 minutes, 45 tops. But that depends on where in Severna Park. Have you looked in Severn? It's much closer to Ft. Meade. The commute would be easy-peasy. And I just "happen" to have a 5 bd/3.5 bath home for sale in a great community.

Have you seen the listing for 1401 Watermill Court in Severn yet? Look for MLS-AA7642826 or check out the home's web site at Severn Maryland House for Sale. This is one you have to see. It is absolutely move-in ready. It's not a short sale, we're downsizing. It won't last long. All the realtors agree that it shows very well. It just needs the right buyer.

If you're really set on Severna Park, which is a great area, the commute will not be bad at all.
