Default Visiting Ocean City

The travel channel had a good feature on the boardwalk in Ocean City and it looked interesting. I did not know much about Ocean City before watching the travel channel special.

I have visited Venice Beach, Atlantic City, Coney Island, etc already. I'm just wondering if anything is extremely unique about Ocean City to stand out over the other tourist destinations mentioned.

So my question...... What is unique about Ocean City that is extremely unique to make Ocean City worth my time/money for a visit?

There was a time about five years ago, before the recession started, that people who frequently went to OC discovered it was cheaper to fly to Cancun for a week than it was to drive to OC (rentals being considerably cheaper in Cancun). Not sure how that works out now, but if it is a beach you want you can do better. If it is a relatively short trip you want OC may be what you desire.

This is surprising. If this helps I would be driving in from Long Island.

I am the type of person who enjoys a beach weekend getaway because of more than just the actual beach, but the overall environment.

Let me breakdown more of what I am wanting.

* Nightlife - I'm late 20's
* Food/Dining/Restaurants
* Pier
* Boardwalk (I know OC has a good boardwalk)
* Casinos (I don't think OC has casinos)
* Water Parks/Rides
* Quality of sand/water (clear would be great). If anyone has pics it would be nice. Here is one.....

I am trying to do my own research and gather all of this info on my own, but I could use some help from the natives on those topics. I am basicly just deciding if this trip is worth my time/money. If it's not then I might vacation somewhere else.

If you don't like to hang out with High School age kids, stay away at graduation time.

If you like clear water you will be disappointed in OC. It is similar to what you'd see near LI.

I want a young professional crowd. Ages: 25-35.

Also, is Ocean City a bunch of families?

Much more family oriented than AC. They resisted the casino for the longest time, and then, when the state opted for slots, it was built outside of OC, rather than in OC. Lots of people in easy driving distance have condos for weekends.

Having lived both places, I can tell you that the beaches/water are nicer than LI.

Assateague national park is pretty cool too.

The prevalence of crab is really all that sets it apart from other beach resorts. Seacrets is the big "adult beverage" club there.

I'm not sure if I agree. OC looks to be on par with most of LI.
