We are relocating back to MD shortly and will be living in Reisterstown. Coming from an area where I am less than 10 minutes from the commissary, this will be an adjustment. Here in Hampton Roads there are 3 within a reasonable distance of me and they are all slightly different with different pros and cons.

Meade is by far the larger of the two commissaries abeit farther away from you...Detrick is a small one as compared to a major army installation. Not knowing what installation you have been near makes comparison difficult.....if you can do monthly shopping....Meade is the better choice based on size, selection and stocking of items.....Detrick has a relatively small meat counter and small fresh veggies/fruit as well. We live in Frederick and make a monthly trip to Meade and in between trips to Detrick as needed..........hope this helps!

I used to frequent Ft. Meade's commisary when I had the authority to enter on base. Gotta love the prices and no tax!!!! The BX/PX had everything I needed as well.

Meade
has a goodly sized, decent commisary. Currently (still) undergoing rennovations, so it looks/feels more cramped than it is. I'd actively avoid it the weekend aftery payday.

Thanks all. We are in Hampton Roads so I am used to a large selection of commissaries.
I think I will try both since we will be in Frederick on a regular basis, but Meade sounds like a better bet for monthly shopping. I appreciate your input!
