Hi, I am planning to loose some weight and summer is the best time for hiking trails. I am looking for some good and safe hiking trails. Can anyone please recommend me of some safe hiking trails with around 6 - 7 miles distance?

You could try hiking over at Mount Sugarloaf in Comus just up I-270 from Germantown -- Sugarloaf Mtn., Dickerson, MD -- there are several hikes there ranging up to 7 miles or so.

Or head over to the C&O Canal and hike along the towpath.

Or drive a bit further up to Thurmont; Catoctin Mountain Park and Cunningham Falls State Park have a lot of great trails.

Yeah, if you are willing to drive, I would second the two parks in Thurmont. Lots of nice trees, mountain views and good trails, many are pretty steep though, a great workout. The C&O Canal trail is very flat, not really my cup of tea, but it would a good choice if the miles and speed are what you are going for. Just watch out for bikes!
