Hello. I am trying to help a friend with his relocation to Andrews Air Force Base. He is a single guy looking for a rental property in a safe area close to Andrews. I have searched this forum as well as other online sites but continue to find conflicting information regarding the safety and desirability of the area.

My friend was interested in Alexandria or Springfield. Based on Google maps, I suggested that we look at rental properties in Upper Marlboro, Camp Springs, Clinton or Bowie.

Could anyone help us? He is flying in this weekend and we are to go house-hunting.

Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated!!

Single guy.... I would look in the more urban parts of Arlington and Alexandria, plus part of DC.

Thank you for your reply.

Do you know how long the commute would be from Alexandria to Andrews Air Force Base? According to mapquest, it looks to be about 23 miles but I don't know how long that would actually take. I heard that there is a big bridge that causes traffic delays but I'm not sure where that is. Please forgive me, I'm not from the area.

Thanks for any help that you can provide!

Sorry I'm not sure, I just know where DC area singles like to live. Traffic around DC is some of the worst in the Country. The area around Andrews is surburban/rural, and can be sketchy. I would be careful getting an apartment in most parts of PG county.

Downtown Baltimore has tons of younger Ft. Meade workers, about 18 miles, so I'm not sure if DC is the same for Andrews.

Woodrow Wilson Bridge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for many years was one of the worst traffic bottlenecks in the whole USA - just unbellievable - however since it was widened from six to twelve lanes in 2008 (at a huge cost of $2.5 billion) traffic moves much better now. Re-building is still not quite finished on some of the roads and interchanges just west of the bridge in VA.

Thanks for the info about the bridge. I kept hearing awful stories about "THE BRIDGE" almost like it was a villian in a horror movie.

Now we know. Thanks!
