I think the "writer" is referring to Baltimore moreso than Maryland as a whole. Batimore city is DEFINITLY high crime. And as far as Montgomery and Prince Georges County crime...well....they are basically suburbs of D.C. which is the murder capital of the country. There are beautiful countrysides in Maryland...the rural parts way north of the city. South of the city...far south...is Southern Maryland and the beach. It is nice also. I grew up in a northern suburb of Baltimore and had a nice childhood is a decent neighborhood....but nothing compared to where I'm raising my children now. I've been in TX for 14 years and I would NEVER move back to the east coast. Now I view it as dreary, dirty and depressing. Everyone who lives there if FROM there....and since I've lived other places, I find their opinions to be narrow and biased and way too BALMER for me now. Housing is way too expensive also. The state isn't that big...isn't every square inch a nice place to be??? Probably because too much money is spent "supporting" people who can't support themselves. Sorry.

Most of MD is FAR from ghetto, in fact Montgomery County is one of the richest counties in America, and since I've lived here most of my life, I feel safe in saying that a lot of it is populated by pretentious suburbanites who think sucking down mass quantities of Starbucks makes them cultured. Im not bitter at all, am I? LOL. It seems to me, from reading CareBear's posts, that she wants to live in a conservative, homogenous area where she doesnt feel threatened by the rest of the world, thats great, I encourage her not to stay here then. Oh, Iscander, everyone knows Michael Vick is guilty as sin, he's even said that from the beginning. And OJ IS guilty, sorry. There's enough persecution of black people in America without having to pull stuff out of a hat.

LOL! You pretty much nailed it. Walk down 3 blocks anywhere in DC and you'll run into 5 Starbucks.

Smile Yep, life in the City is much better.

Life in the city is the very best.

Quote from Matt:
I'll say it again, there's a lot more to DC than the National Mall area and all the boring "concrete buildings". If DC is so boring, just what makes farmland so great? Watching wildlife all day would get boring too.
__________________________________________________
I agree. DC is not boring. The murders, robberies, crack dealers and junkies keep the place rockin'...! If you go anyplace in the "wrong" parts of town for "your color" (which ever it may be) at night, you will be anything but bored.
Also, Matts comment about what makes the country with its endless cornfields and open doors so great? --Well, we certainly don't want open doors! I mean with an open door that is never locked, how can those country folks expect to keep from being robbed or killed? I guess they are counting on the fact that there are more potential victims in the city and it keeps the criminals here.

We had better send a few bus loads of our criminals out there to teach those farmers a lesson. Just cause they don't have anything worth stealing, we still should send some theives to teach them a lesson. -steal their bibles or something. And as for murderers, well, every one of those farmers have loaded guns beside their beds, so maybe that's not a good idea... but we can fix them some way. maybe we could get their cows on crack-cocaine...
That would teach them to be so doggone nice!

Just cause those people in the western boot have winter skiing and water skiing in the summer, plus hiking, canoing, white-water rafting, camping and all that, doesn't mean it's a nice place -does it? Why should they be able to throw a stone as far as it will carry and still be on their own land, when we can't?

Maybe it is time to charter all the busses and load them full of city people and go out and show those poor farmers what it is like to live in the city -to not be able to sneeze without someone complaining about the noise.

And another thing. Why should they be allowed to go out hunting anytime they feel like it, when we are not even allowed to own a gun except with a special permit?

And then there is the unemployment thing. Why should they be able to grow their own food and keep right on working when we have so many on welfare and food-stamps? We need to get those country bumpkins on food stamps too, so they know what it's like and how great the city can be.

City life is the best. Isn't it? I say nationalize all those farms and build tenament housing, then force those farmers to move out of their nice farm-houses and into the tenaments, so they can know how wonderful it is to live in the city.

Anyone with me on forming a movement to destroy country life, so they will be miserable, too?

Im tired of people saying DC is the murder capital of the country... it isnt, its not even in the Top 5.. DC was the murder capital more than 10 years ago, people have to be forgetting about Detroit, Baltimore, Trenton, St. Louis...

Its EXTREMELY borrring and has NOTHING for kids . You travel hours to go to a decent place to eat or shop. Theres nothing but trees that cause so much humidity in air thats its hard to beathe in summer . Theres no warm beach around the area. People are over confident. They cant dream of the money other states have but think they have.
No lights on the streets although taxes are sooo high.Nothing for kids.
extreme gas usage becuase of winding and hilly streets . depressive weather at all times. extremely bothersome and depressive in winters when it snows hard and when its very chilly . December is not bad . The only thing you can enjoy is Christmas preparation . its fun .
Overall I,ll never recommend it for anyone unless they have a second home in some fun area or real world out there .
good luck everyone. look for sun and beach not clouds and snow all the year round.

You are extremely ignorant. I've lived in the Maryland area for over 11 years now, and I love it to death. Summers aren't terribly hot and humid, much like Florida or southern states. Where the winters aren't that bad. Obviously you're going to get cool air, 'cause it's north. It doesn't snow that often, about like 4 times each winter season, and it usually doesn't stick. Education changes from place to place, but I've gotten a decent education and i'm only in 10th grade still. As for location, it may not be perfect for the materialistic people, but you have both mountains and the beach in a relatively close area. There's beautiful scenery and shopping in places like Annapolis, and Baltimore. So if you want to go along speaking negatively about a place, get your facts straight first.
